Who’s the beauty

& where’s aBroad?

I’m the beauty, you’re the beauty, all around is the beauty. And where exactly is “abroad” you ask? Home for now is the small city of Arras in Northern France, just a short train ride to Paris or Belgium, and a quick drive to the Chunnel in Calais.

We are here because Ocel is the Visitor Experience Manager for the Canadian National Vimy Memorial. It is a stunning monument, and I still can barely believe what an amazing opportunity this is for both of us.

It’s a big adventure and I want to remember the details. I want to look back five years from now and remember how “same same but different” everything felt at first; how blown away I was the first time I saw a huge gothic cathedral; and how frustrated I am that I can’t find any TUMS here.

I also want to share our journey with others, especially family, friends, and those who have expressed an interest in our adventures in France.

So please, I invite you to follow along, ask questions, tell me what you want to know more about, and send lots of comments (or TUMS).

Home sweet home in PEI

Home Sweet Home
Charlottetown, PEI

Our first home! We bought it in August, 2018, lived in it for a few months, and left it in the safe(?) keeping of brother Bobby while we’re away.

Our little paradise on 37 acres. The perfect destination for chopping trees, growing plants, late night bonfires, and pooping outside.

Chez Nous
Arras, France

We found our dream spot for a 3-year stay in Arras. A spacious townhouse built in the 1700’s, situated in the downtown region with a large private back yard.

Fun Facts

  • Ocel is my rock and the reason I’m on this great adventure.
  • I’ve got three incredibly cute, smart, and funny nephews who I miss dearly (SEND PICS ALWAYS).
  • I’m slowly rebuilding my indoor plant collection, and recently planted my first window boxes, which I’m happy to say are thriving so far!
  • Cheese is life, and France is cheese, and Heather is happy.

Meet Heather

Hi! I’m Heather, a true east coast Canadian originally from Florenceville, NB, (the French Fry capital of the world), and transplanted to Charlottetown, PEI. I spent four years teaching above the Arctic Circle in the small hamlet of Clyde River, NU. It was an amazing experience that has largely shaped my adult life, and the jumping-off point for my continued desire to travel.

I love music and performing, will always have a special place in my heart for Feast Dinner Theatres, and remember fondly my years hosting karaoke at The Alley. I’m likely to break into song at any moment, especially to sing about whatever mundane activity I might currently be doing (🎶much to the chagrin of my sister🎶).

For the past few years I’ve been working in the marketing and website development industry, and am fortunate to continue working remotely from France. This blog is a work-in-progress, and I always love to receive comments, messages, and emails about posts you liked, or features that look or function weirdly on your device. I’m constantly reading, learning, and trying new things with the site. Let me know what you think!
